The Future of the Brazilian Children's Charity
On the micro level, the B.C.C. assists with the mental health concerns of a population that is generally forgotten. On the macro level, the B.C.C. strengthens professional ties (in the fields of psychology, psychiatry and social work) between the U.S., Brazil and Germany. The future of the B.C.C. is a capacity building model creating new funding sources, new possibilities for clients and a new hope for the homeless children and low-income families of Brazil.

The B.C.C. is also an organization the promotes the strengthening of professional bonds in psychology, psychiatry and social work between the United States and Brazil. In July, 2011, the B.C.C. begins an annual lecture series in Rio de Janeiro. A guest lecturer from the U.S. is brought to Brazil to present on family psychology.

The Two Goals of the B.C.C. Guest Lecturer Series:
1) Licensed therapists, psychologists, psychiatrists, and social workers from the U.S. may travel to Brazil and receive continuing education units (CEU's) at the lecture series. 2) Graduate students and professionals in the Rio de Janeiro and surrounding states (Sao Paulo, Minas Gerais, Espirito Santo) will be invited to participate in the lecture series. However, anyone is welcome from any state within Brazil. At the lectures, the two groups (U.S. and Brazilian) may mingle together sharing professional knowledge and maybe even forming relationships that last a lifetime.
There are many issues that must be considered:
1) Receiving permission from the appropriate U.S. organizations: The B.C.C. has requested information from the AAMFT, APA, and NASW, and is in the process of applying for CEU approval.
2) Coordinating the lecture series around professor/instructor vacations in both Brazil and the U.S. July is a month when instructors/professors in both countries have vacation time. Also, as the seasons are reversed between the Northern and Southern hemispheres, July is the peak of winter in Brazil and the peak of summer in the U.S. In December it is not uncommon to experience a difference of 60Fahrenheit degrees between the climates in the U.S. and Brazil. This, along with the high humidity, can cause discomfort for some foreigners. However, in July, there is the least amount of temperature difference between the U.S. and Brazil and humidity is markedly less.
3) The President has already met with a candidate for the first year and another candidate for the second year. Both have accepted the offer of guest lecturer for the B.C.C.
4) Coordinating with the Brazilian Association of Psychologist, Organization of Psychotherapists and the Brazilian Government regarding visas, attendance for the lecture series and a physical address for the conference. The B.C.C. will begin the lecture series in July of 2011.
