On March 18, 2010 our President (Hal Morris) presented on behalf of the Brazilian Children’s Charity and the Brasileira Crianças Caridade at the XVIII World IFTA Conference.  The IFTA is the International Family Therapy Association and they provide international conferences to strengthen, promote and improve the quality of family therapy and the quality of relationships within families.  This year’s conference (2010) was held in Buenos Aires, Argentina from March 17-20 with over 35 countries being represented.  The majority of participants were from the United States and there was a substantial representation from Brazil.

The topic of our one hour workshop was, “Training in Systemic Intervention for Underserved Populations in India, Brazil and Peru.”  Hal co-presented with Flor Vilches from the Universidad Catolica de Santa Maria in Arequipa, Peru who presented on her work in Arequipa, Peru and Bill Forisha and Wendi Anderson from Argosy University in Twin Cities, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota, U.S.A. who presented on their work in Bangalore, India.
Some of the topics of our 20 minute B.C.C. presentation were:  explaining what the B.C.C. is, why we are needed in Brazil, how we function in Brazil, and what sorts of systemic and other interventions are used in the treatment process of our clients.  The presentation went well and there was positive audience participation during the question and answer portion at the end.

Some Great International Exposure!!!
The conference as a whole was very productive.  Many new contacts were made with Brazilian psychologists from the Universidade Federal Rio de Janiero, UFNiterói and UFSão Paulo.  Also, new relationships were formed with professionals from the U.S.A., Germany, Portugal, etc.  The B.C.C. gained some well deserved international recognition and made some new and potentially interesting contacts.
